ZOLI: DOLL FACE
By: Nicole Holland
In 2006, Zoli emerged on the SuicideGirls’ scene and instantaneously became a leading and in-demand SuicideGirl with an international following. Since her arrival, Zoli landed the cover of Switzerland’s ROCKSTAR magazine (Issue # 40) and has been featured in International Tattoo Art magazine (2007), FLAUNT magazine (2007), CSI: NY, E! Special: Sexiest Jobs in Hollywood and currently is collaborating on film projects with John 5 (Rob Zombie and former Marilyn Manson guitarist).
With Zoli’s captivating alterna-rock beauty and porcelain skin inked with a plethora of vibrant tattoos, IFQ’s Nicole Holland immediately notices one über cool tattoo that reads: DOLL FACE, which is displayed across her fingers – hence the title. IFQ sits down with Zoli at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas as she discusses SuicideGirls, CSI: NY, reality TV and her upcoming film.
IFQ: I’ve been a fan of SuicideGirls since ’99 and I must admit that you are my favorite SuicideGirl. Fill me in on the whole SuicideGirls’ gig.
Zoli: I started modeling for SuicideGirls.com in May 2006 and SuicideGirls was the first time I had ever modeled. Well, it’s been about a year and a half now and in that time frame, I’ve done a lot of damage! I don’t have a million friends on MySpace like other people, but I do get recognized in public quite a bit! But seriously, SuicideGirls has been an awesome experience for me. I’m in the first issue of SuicideGirls’ magazine/book Papercuts, SuicideGirls’ 2007 Italian calendar and I am even in their newest playing card set!
Since SuicideGirls has become a household name and when companies hire for events or projects, a lot of time, they will say, “I need a SuicideGirl for this.” It has almost become synonymous for “alternative model.” Instead of saying, “We need a hot tattooed girl for our movie,” they say, “We need a SuicideGirl.”
IFQ: You were featured on CSI: NY Episode #305 “Oedipus Hex” as Zoli Suicide, which is included in the CSI: NY boxed set (Season 3, Episode 5). Tell me about your experience on set.
Zoli: CSI was incredible! Everyone on set was a blast to work with! Anthony Zuiker, the producer, cast me for the show. My second day on set, we were reenacting a scene from the movie Carrie where she gets fake blood dropped on her at the prom. Seven other girls and I were on a stage in 9-inch heals and wearing ripped prom dresses and tuxedos. It was a single take shot because there was a ridiculous six to eight hour clean-up after the scene. I have to say that having 50 gallons of fake blood dropped onto my head is one of the oddest things that I have ever experienced. [Laughs.] The boxed set is out now which has an entire “behind the scenes” look at the episode. I have yet to see it, but I do have an interview segment as well as some other footage.
IFQ: You are on the E! Special: Sexiest Jobs in Hollywood. Congrats! How did they go about selecting you?
Zoli: Thank you! When I got the call about the show, I was in LA and had just finished hosting the Captivity movie premiere party. I was ranting and raving to Missy (the owner of SuicideGirls) about getting in all of the press photos and video from the party, so she just called me and said, “We need you in LA next week to shoot a segment for E!.”
IFQ: You have been on the following reality TV shows: Style Network’s Split Ends, MTV’s Next and LOGO Television’s Curl Girls. What’s your opinion on reality TV, in general?
Zoli: I have a love/hate relationship with reality TV. In general, I’m not a huge fan of it. The first reality show Curl Girls was a blast. I waited almost a year before the show came out, and when it finally did, they edited it so much that the story line was completely different from what had actually happened. It’s just scary to think that so many people think it is “real” when they can make you into whomever they want you to be. I was having a conversation last night with a good friend of mine about it. He was making fun of a line that I said on Next. I was totally offended by his accusations and explained to him that they had literally handed me that line to say. Even friends don’t realize how fake it is when they know you and your personality! Above all, I think the uncertainty is what kills me. Anything can happen in post-production of a reality show!
IFQ: Switching from TV to film, you are in a movie with guitarist John 5 of Rob Zombie (and former Marilyn Manson guitarist). How was it working with John 5 and what’s the movie about?
Zoli: There’s a pretty funny story behind this one. John and I had been in communication about a different project of his that I was going to work on. So, he called me up one day when I was asleep and said, “Hey, I’m shooting this movie segment today. Do you want to sit in the background with a pig’s mask and lingerie on while I play a song of mine on the guitar?” I remembered thinking, what the hell? Literally, I rolled out of bed and sped down to the Hard Rock to his room where he was shooting. I sat on a bed in lingerie with a pig’s mask on for a couple hours. I’m not 100% sure of the movie’s title at this point, but I do know that the movie is a tribute to a famous rock photographer and will include all sorts of big name musicians. John is an amazingly talented musician and a super cool and down-to-earth guy. We should be working together in the future if everything pans out!
